Queen Latifah

Dana Elaine Owens better known as Queen Latifah is an American performer and actress. Queen Latifah is an American rapper, actress as well as a singer. Queen Latifah was the daughter of the Newark New Jersey schoolteacher and a Newark New Jersey police officer Lancelot Owens Senior was born and raised in Newark New Jersey. Latifah's mother and father separated when Latifah turned ten. Latifah attended a Catholic school and received her education in Newark New Jersey. She was a member of at the Baptist church. Latifah refers to an Arabic term that translates to "delicate and gentle". The cousin she had bestowed it on her at the age of eight. Latifah is a tall, 5'10" girl who was on the high school basketball team. She performed the song "Home" from The Wiz in the course of a show at her highschool. Latifah started beatboxing for the group known as Ladies Fresh. Latifah was part of Flavor Unit - a group of rappers that joined by the producer DJ Mark the 45 king. Mark James, aka DJ Mark the45 King recorded Queen Latifah's rap Princess of the Posse. The recording was handed over to Yo! MTV Raps Faddy. Dante Ross of Tommy Boy Music has signed Latifah following her hearing of the song. She released her first single, Wrath of My Madness, in the year 1988.
